In Iron Man Annual #7, a declining super-villain named The Smuggler (aka Erik Josten) met Dr. Karl Malus. Dr. Malus used various procedures to increase the existing power and strength of The Smuggler, but added an important new power to Jostens already impressive arsenal: the power to increase his size at will. Armed with this new power, The Smuggler renamed himself Goliath, betrayed Dr. Malus (who had promised to test and explore the scope of THE GIANTS jaw-dropping new powers) and battled the Avengers. At the conclusion of Iron Man Annual #7, Iron Man defeated Goliath. What if Iron Man had failed? Walking deeper into the Hollywood Hills from his seemingly effortless defeat of several super-heroes at the Hollywood Sign, Josten willed himself back to his normal height. As The Smuggler, Josten was already enormous; a 65 275 lbs. rock-solid adonis. As, Goliath, however, things were a bit different. As he peeled off the orange and red Goliath costume Dr. Malus provided and changed into his jeans and t-shirt, Josten could tell he was a lot bigger even at his new base height. He massive quads ripped the seams of his jeans and their hemline dangled several inches over his ankle. He tried to put on his shoes, but quickly realized the Smugglers shoes were useless to GOLIATH. He smirked and pulled his 4XL t-shirt over his new torso. It would last until he accidentally flexed his massive lats about five minutes after changing. Josten felt invincible even at this height. He decided he would form a plan and walk north until he found a car to his liking.
