"It's hard to believe. One year together and it all comes to an end," I said, writing out the check, "But, it's honestly for the best. I just cannot hurt her like that."
"Found another girl?" the man asked taking the check from me.
"No, not a girl, a guy."
"To each their own," he said stashing my payment in his pocket, "I offer the opportunity, it's up to you on how you will use it."
"Like I said, we were together for a year. We had a lot of great memories but none that seemed foreshadowing of a long term relationship, like marriage," I said leaning against the counter, "Of course she talked about it. It was fun to talk about it but I knew nothing of the sorts would become of it."
"Many people enter into marriage without really looking at the long term. It's the moment they want," he said back.
"She is a very sweet woman and I didn't want to hurt her, especially knowing how much she cared for me."
"Well then, this is the best route."
