Manquake at Land's Edge - Chapter 4

The morning after the celebrations, Jay woke to the sound of deafening thunder. The first boom shook him to his core and he sat bolt upright to find that he had fallen asleep in the field, and now the sun was shining above him.

"Come on, lazy bums." Gee said in a tired drawl. He was lying on his back in the grass, clapping his hands for the sleeping villagers' attention. Each time his massive palms struck one another, there was a resounding thunder clap that left Jay's ears ringing. "Time to get to work. My boots and chain won't make themselves."

Men who had fallen asleep in a drunken daze the night before, including Rupert, dragged themselves to their feet with creased and miserable faces. Everybody rose except for Gee, who lay tanning in the sun with his arm shielding his eyes.
