Riley and Toby were inseparable. Unfortunately for Toby, who was always being sucked into his brothers mischief. Like last summer . . .
Riley was Tobys older brother, by a year. But youd never know it to look at them. Except for the hair; they both had sandy-blond hair, never combed, but always casually-perfect. Riley was the bigger of the two by a couple of inches and a real jock, good at everything, and his body looked it. Toby, on the other hand, was more boyish, mildly athletic, slim and trim. Riley was outgoing; Toby not so much. Mostly, they were best friends. They both attended Trent College, Toby doing considerably better than Riley, but not by much. Both liked to goof off too much.
So, when Riley lost a pick-up basketball match against one of their friends, Devon, he wasnt happy. It was one thing to lose, but something else to lose to a black guy. After all, they were inferior. Right? Lets just say, Riley wasnt particularly enlightened or politically correct. Toby tired of arguing with him. His brother never hurt anyone, he just kept it bottled up inside. Most of the time. But this time, he wanted to correct things as he put it. It was obvious why he lost, hed said; they have more places to workout. His logic made no sense to Toby, so he just smiled and went along with his fantasy.
