Ryan was excited. It was his first Bears game. His first time at Soldier Field, actually. He had watched the team on TV all his life, but this was his first time actually being here at a football game. He couldn't see the players as well as he could on TV - they looked much bigger on TV, in fact - but hearing the roar of the crowd gave him a rush.
"Cheers," Ryan said to his friend Jake, holding up a beer.
"Cheers," Jake said, tapping his cup against his friend's before taking a sip.
It was a beautiful fall day in Chicago: sun shining, blue sky, unseasonably warm. This is the life, Ryan thought. I'll have to do this again.
About midway through the third quarter, the defense was on the field. The Bears were up 24-14 and needed to stop the Vikings from making it further down the field. They were doing a good job so far, but had just another down before the Vikings would have to punt.
