The trip to Bens house was a humbling experience for Alan, almost more so than what had taken place between him and Marcus, who drove according to Alans directions. The giant world outside was extremely familiar, and at the same time completely monstrous and alien. Standing on the dash made Alan feel like he was flying over a landscape at impossible speeds, he had to jar himself to reality to realize he was likely going just over thirty. He continually would become enamored with the sheer size of it all, and miss pointing out important turns to Marcus, who would just scoff and make a three point turn, saying something condescending like What would you do without me little guy? or If you cant show me where to go, maybe Ill just take you home with me! Thankfully, Marcus didn't seem to intend on going through with that threat, but every time he said it, Alan would look back and see the uncharacteristic smirk across the kids face, far cockier than Alan had ever seen him wear. He was enjoying this far too much, and Alan didn't want to take any chances.
