My mind wandered, thinking about the family Id just heard about on the news. I couldnt shake a feeling of inevitable dread. Perhaps I was just being paranoid. Perhaps something really was wrong and my gut was telling the truth. I had no idea, and only time could tell. It didnt help to ease my flip flopping stomach.
Suddenly though, my thoughts were interrupted by the shrill sound of the doorbell. I quickly realized that this was the I.M.S. school bus driver, coming to collect me for school! Maybe I could still get there! I knew that if nobody answered the door, he would tap a special badge to a magnetic card reader beside the door, instantly opening it for him to come in and pick me up. He would, however, only look for me on the kitchen table. If I wasnt there, it was to be assumed I was sick and could not attend school.
