It was seven in the morning and Rew had just stepped out of the Attis Memorial Hospital. The morning sun was already beating down from its lofty perch in the sky and the air was shimmering from the heat waves emanating off of the hot, black asphalt. Just as the local meteorologist had predicted, the temperature was already soaring and it threatened to keep rising throughout the day.
Rew raised his arms above his head and slowly bent each at the elbow in turn, stretching the muscles of his exhausted arms. Rew was a general resident at Attis and he was just coming off of a nearly 24 hour long shift. The night had been the worst. The nights were always the worst. There had been a several car pile-up in the early evening and some sort of gang related shooting deep in the heart of the night. He had been going non-stop, but now he was free; if only for a short while.
