It's a small company, as the boss always loved to point out, so some of the usual positions are short-staffed or not even evident. There is no reasonable security system, and the doorman has to take some additional functions including patrols and stewarding the austere galley. Each of the few employees has his own key anyway, so even when the lodge is unstaffed after 8 p.m., people can stay in the house for their overtime hours. No bad circumstances for my case, but yet I had to take care of a sort of alibi, so I had put my question to some more people in their office cabins before I made the doorman my main wit. It was not unusual that nobody knew about the boss's whereabouts, he was generally considered a misfit difficult to understand, but it was useful to point out that he was missing during the time I still was in.
