"Drug Deal"

It was Saturday morning and Martin needed to do some grocery shopping. He hated it, namely because he didn't drive, partly because lugging things up three flights of stairs was never fun, and mostly because he hadn't slept well the night before and just didn't feel like doing it. But he had to, at least convention made him have to. He only had a lick of deodorant left, the shampoo was low, he ate the last can of his favorite soup two nights before, and damn it there was only one piece of apple pie left and he wasn't even sure if it was still any good. Necessity was a bith, he thought to himself as he dialed the cab. The 'bitch' of the cab company answered and he tried not to let out a groan when she told him twenty minutes. He knew it would be more like a half hour at least.

Begrudgingly he grabbed his reusable grocery totes, including the one for cold food. He slipped his wallet in his pocket, his keys in another, his phone in yet another, and checked that he remembered the coupons and list. The last thing he needed was to forget the damned list he thought. It was enough trouble as it was to remember anything these days between the long hours at work and the meds he was on, it all left him in a daze most the time. He was lucky to remember to even go get more food and household items on a rare Saturday off from his grueling job.

He debated which coat to wear, checking the weather app on his phone, flipping back and forth between the current conditions and the forecast. It was cold out now, but not windy, but it could rain later and get windy or it might be sunny and calm, damn, never a coat that fit all those possibilities he thought as he went with the brown hoodie and decided to stick to the long sleeve tee he'd put on after his shower and near-last bit of deodorant. He checked the list again, looking blankly into the kitchen as if somehow he'd temporarily develop x-ray vision into the cabinets to check what was left in them. Just stick to the list he thought, at worst splurge on a new cat toy for Cordelia or a cute Halloween decoration to hang up, maybe something to go with the purple lights he bought two years ago and hadn't used one season yet.
