At the king's service

Hey guys. I think I've given up on continuing on "Escape Manhattan" but I wanted to start on something new - which I know I actually can finish.
I wanted to give myself a challenge for this one and try to write in a fairytale way, I hope you'll enjoy it!

-------------------------------

Once upon a time there was a mighty kingdom, so powerful that not even the strongest foe could harm it. Many times enemy troops had attempted to invade the castle and take over the throne, but they would have been defeated before even touching the castle town’s walls. It was all thanks to their king, King Cedric the Third. He was a young and handsome man, but don’t let his good looks fool you, for he was a battle mastermind. With his huge army and ingenious battle tactics he could guarantee his people eternal safety. You would therefore suspect that the people here lived happy lives, but that was not the case.

You see, despite its safe condition, this kingdom was not the happy kind which you would hear about in your usual fairytales. The king was unbelievably cruel and greedy and forced the people to pay high taxes. He always used the excuse that it was for the sake of his army but in fact it did not require such huge sums of money. Instead, the king was using the major share of the tax incomes for his own luxurious lifestyle. He wanted the finest garments, the most beautiful jewelry, morning baths in pure milk, the most delicious foods and much, much more. In short, he wanted everything. Everyone in the kingdom was aware that their tax money was being used like this, but no one dared to point it out as it could result in immediate decapitation.
